Abstract

The study of sexual harassment is an active and exciting arena for both legal scholars and psychologists and other social scientists. Legal rulings affect the course of psychological research, and research findings in turn inform legal scholars and the courts. This special theme issue brings together 8 articles that focus on researchable issues that affect sexual harassment law and its practice. In this introduction to the issue, the authors described each article; identified its central contribution to the conflict resolution process, a common theme in the set of articles; and then commented where appropriate on the point of view of the authors with regard to 3 areas: (a) legal vs. psychological definitions and descriptions of harassment, (b) policy recommendations, and (c) empirical disagreements in current or published research.
